Peter Obi Denies Leaving Labour Party, Calls for Unity Ahead of 2027 Elections

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has firmly denied claims suggesting he plans to exit the party ahead of 2027. Addressing members at the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, Obi said he remains committed to the Labour Party and has never held talks with any other political platform.


The emergency NEC meeting, co-convened by Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti, followed the Supreme Court’s decision to sack Julius Abure as the party’s National Chairman. Amid the leadership crisis, rumors had circulated that Obi might be in talks with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) or returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but he dismissed such reports as baseless.
