The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed an application seeking to restrain the National Assembly from approving the 2025 budget for Rivers State under the leadership of the state’s current sole administrator, Ibokette Ibas.
In a ruling delivered on Friday, Justice James Omotosho held that the relief sought by the plaintiffs had already been overtaken by events, as the Senate had passed the controversial budget on June 25.
President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other elected officials for a period of six months amid a deepening political crisis.
