Buhari’s Hometown, Daura Hosts 2025 International Hausa Day Celebration [Photos/Video]

The ancient city of Daura in Katsina State, home of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, is playing host to this year’s International Hausa Day celebration, with the palace of the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar, serving as the main venue.


Papers News reports that the annual Hausa Day, first marked in 2015, has since grown into a global cultural event celebrated every August 26 across continents, although it has yet to receive official recognition from the United Nations.


Daura was chosen as host for the 2025 edition due to its historic status as the cradle of the Hausa people and the birthplace of Hausa language and identity.
