In a statement posted on social media Sunday, Harris argued that the action was primarily motivated by control over Venezuela’s vast oil reserves rather than concerns about drugs or democracy.
“Donald Trump’s actions in Venezuela do not make America safer, stronger, or more affordable,” Harris wrote. While acknowledging Maduro as “a brutal, illegitimate dictator,” she emphasized that this reality “does not change the fact that this action was both unlawful and unwise.”
The former Democratic presidential candidate drew parallels to past military interventions, warning: “We’ve seen this movie before. Wars for regime change or oil that are sold as strength but turn into chaos, and American families pay the price.”
