The Labour Party (LP) has firmly stated that it will not allow “reactionary forces” to hijack the party. LP spokesman, Obiora Ifoh, made this declaration while dismissing the possibility of the party engaging in a merger.
In response to a call by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to rebrand for a potential merger or coalition, Ifoh emphasized that the LP is open to partnerships for future elections. The NLC, in a communique issued after its meeting, directed the national administrative council (NAC) to take immediate steps, including rebranding, merging, or forming coalitions to defend the interests of NLC and Nigerian workers within the party. The goal is to reclaim the party and return it to its original ideological roots.
