Wearing his characteristic black outfit, Obi received enthusiastic applause from the crowd gathered to pressure the Joint Conference Committee into accepting the House of Representatives’ version of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, which maintains the electronic transmission requirement.
“Electronic banking functions in Nigeria’s most remote areas—we can certainly transmit election results the same way,” Obi stated. “We’re here to make clear to the National Assembly that citizens’ will must take precedence. No nation can be built on electoral fraud.”
Obi’s participation amplified pressure from opposition figures and elder statesmen calling for transparent election processes.
