Okonjo-Iweala: Trump’s Tariffs Have Minimal Impact on Africa

The Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has stated that tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump will have minimal impact on African economies.


Speaking during an interview at the World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C., Okonjo-Iweala explained that Africa’s limited trade with the United States shields it from significant fallout. According to her, only 6.5 percent of Africa’s exports are destined for the U.S., while just 4.4 percent of its imports come from there.
