The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has denied claims that the jailed Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Officer, Prof. Peter Ogban, rigged the election in his favour and on behalf of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Papers News reports that Akpabio, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by his Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Anietie Ekong, stated that the story alleging Ogban worked in his favour as an electoral officer in Akwa Ibom is unfounded, spurious, and malicious, intended to tarnish his image.
Akpabio said he was rather a victim of the fraudulent manipulation of the election in the Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District held on February 23, 2019, and Ogban’s sentencing has vindicated him and the APC, confirming that the election was massively rigged.
