U.S. President Donald Trump is set to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday as part of renewed diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine, more than three years after Russia’s 2022 invasion.
The scheduled phone call follows recent, inconclusive negotiations in Istanbul between Russian and Ukrainian delegations — their first direct talks in nearly three years. The talks ended in a stalemate, with both sides trading barbs and Ukraine accusing Moscow of dispatching a “dummy” team of low-ranking officials.
