The victims were identified as the driver of one of the trucks, marked T-392 LA, and a street urchin who was found at the scene. The truck driver was trapped inside his cab following the violent impact and had to be carefully extracted by rescue teams. The body of the street urchin was later recovered from beneath one of the vehicles after a thorough search.
Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials coordinated the recovery of both bodies, working alongside the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), whose technical expertise was critical to the operation. Officers from the Ilasa Police Division provided security and crowd control at the scene, while the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) evacuated the remains of both victims after receiving a distress call from LASTMA.
LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki used the incident to call on truck operators to drive responsibly, respect speed limits, and remain especially alert during nighttime operations. He urged all road users to observe traffic regulations and report emergencies to the appropriate authorities without delay.
